Among Fjords and Peaks. Into the North.

Norway is a place that makes you pay attention. Oslo’s waterfront is filled with contemporary architecture that feels open, inviting, and connected to the fjord. Public saunas line the harbor, new buildings sit comfortably beside historic ones, and good design is simply part of everyday life. Farther north, the Lofoten Islands are unlike anywhere I’ve been—steep mountains rising straight from the sea, with small fishing villages tucked into every protected bay.

What stayed with me most was the country’s shared sense of design. Red fishing cabins, golden grasses, weathered wood, and dark rock create a landscape with a simple, unmistakable palette. Nothing feels overdesigned or out of place. Homes, harbors, roads, and public spaces all seem to belong to the landscape. It’s a reminder that great design isn’t about standing out—it’s about fitting in.
